6 simple ways to keep your skin glowing this winter!

Girl with glowing winter skin

This season does crazy things to complexions, and with cold air and artificial heat, it’s difficult to keep your skin glowing, but it’s not impossible!

Here are some simple ways to keep that summer glow throughout this chilly season!

We all know water is essential to live but unfortunately during these chilly months, we tend to forget to drink plain ol’ H2O! When you don’t drink enough water, not only does your skin get parched, but your circulation slows down and the body stops functioning as well, which leads to a dull complexion! A great way to hydrate is to carry around a reusable bottle and have it filled minimum 6 times a day!

Let's take a moment to take a few deep breaths… Breathe in… Breathe out...Didn't that feel good? These days most of us are chronically stressed out, and that plays a huge roll in how our skin looks. Stress is notorious for creating inflammation in the body; this can show up as blemishes, wrinkles, sore achy muscles and a less than stellar complexion. Breathing exercises and practicing meditation are both wonderful ways to combat this stress.

Many of us tend to slow down during the winter months, and this is probably one of the reasons why winter is known as a ‘sick-season’, so keep yourbody moving! Even a walk around the block is enough to release some of that stagnant energy, warm you up, get your lymphatic system moving AND increases your circulation to maintain that healthy glow.

Not only can a lack of sleep disturb your mental health and make you feel foggy, dull or loopy, it can also decrease the circulation to your face (making you look paler and less vibrant), and increase the visibility of dark circles! Going to bed early and sleeping 8 hours is an ideal way to let your body rejuvenate and repair.

When it comes to head-to-toe beautiful skin, the foods you put in your body are as important as the products you put on it. Not only do Fruits and veggies have a high water content, they have bounties of other skin-living nutrients that help your skin stay soft and glowy!  Biochemist Elaine Linker, PhD, says "It's definitely true that diet plays an important role in all skin conditions -- not just helping combat wrinkles and lines, but other skin problems as well, including acne, eczema, psoriasis -- even dry flaking or very oily skin".

The secret ingredient to healthy glowing skin is definitely omega-3s. These essential fatty acids are extremely anti-inflammatory and help maintain the moisturizing and protective lipid layer of your skin!
